Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released the following statement on the 20th anniversary of the death of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was assassinated on November 4, 1995:

"Today, the world remembers the life, optimism, and leadership of the Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. We remember the legacy of a legendary war hero who bravely reached for peace. Twenty years after his assassination, Prime Minister Rabin remains an enduring inspiration for all those who strive to end violence and forge a better future for their nation.

"Rabin's legacy is especially poignant at this time when the Israeli people are beset by horrific attacks, and rising voices of incitement fan the flames of violence and hatred. Our hearts ache for those killed and wounded, and for the families grieving after these terrorist attacks. No nation can suffer its citizens being forced to live under the constant shadow of violence.

"As we reflect on the life and memory of this heroic Prime Minister, we rededicate ourselves to standing with the Israeli people in their fight against terror and toward a just and lasting peace. We hope and pray there can be steps to end the incitement and violence.

"On this solemn anniversary, let us renew our support for Israeli and Palestinian leaders to find a way forward and to resume work toward a just and durable two-state solution based on two states for two people living side-by-side in peace and security."
