Washington, D.C. — Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after it was announced that negotiators from the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association arrived at a tentative contract deal late yesterday:

"The tentative deal announced between ILWU and PMA negotiators is good news for all Americans.

"Strong ports are essential for the success of our economy. Our west coast ports are responsible for the commerce that flows through our entire country. When our ports aren't working, the effects are felt by communities across America.

"We are all grateful for the willingness of both the ILWU and PMA to engage in the hard work of compromise, and I congratulate Labor Secretary Tom Perez and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker for their leadership in helping this agreement come together."
