Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the Supreme Court told the Administration and the plaintiffs in the Zubik v. Burwell challenge to the Affordable Care Act’s contraception coverage requirement to go back to the lower courts and try to find a solution that satisfies both parties:

“Employers must not be allowed to pick and choose which laws to obey or which essential health care services to insure. Reasonable accommodation should not deprive women of the contraceptive coverage guaranteed them by law. No employee, male or female, should be denied access to health services because of an employer’s beliefs.

“One of the primary goals of the Affordable Care Act is ending the decades of inequality endured by America’s women forced to settle for less health care at a higher price. We are confident the courts will ultimately affirm women’s right to comprehensive health coverage.”
