Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released the following statement on House Republicans’ unveiling of the health care portion of the so-called “A Better Way” agenda:

“Make no mistake: Republicans’ ‘Wrong Way’ health care agenda would do catastrophic damage to seniors, women and families across America. House Republicans want to end the Medicare guarantee and force disabled Americans and desperate families to bear the brunt of crushing Medicaid cuts. They would repeal the Affordable Care Act, shatter the health care of 20 million Americans, reverse vital protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions, and return our nation to the injustice of women being forced to pay more for their health coverage just because of their gender.

“Even by the dismal standards of House Republicans’ previous assaults on affordable health care, the Republican Wrong Way agenda represents a new low. Raising the Medicare eligibility age to 67 is a particularly cruel blow to working people, many of whom bear the physical toll of long, hard years in the workforce – and are least equipped to pay for their increasing health care needs.

“Six years after the Affordable Care Act became law, and with tens of millions of Americans enjoying its historic protections, Republicans are still trapped in their echo chamber of recklessness and delusion. Instead of targeting seniors, women, families and people with disabilities, Republicans should join Democrats to reduce prescription drug costs and strengthen the quality of care available to all Americans.”
