Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released the following statement after House Republicans voted against a Motion to Recommit measure offered by Democrats that stated that the climate crisis is real:

"Confronting the climate crisis is one of the most urgent challenges facing America. By willfully ignoring the reality of the climate crisis, House Republicans are endangering the air we breathe and the future our children will inherit.

"American children cannot afford Republicans' willful blindness on the climate crisis. In the face of rising asthma rates, record droughts, and surging oceans, we cannot fail to act to protect the future we will leave our children. Faith leaders from Pope Francis to the evangelical community have urged us to act to preserve the beauty of God's creation. Leaders from 195 nations have gathered in Paris for an historic summit to address this impending crisis.

"Yet Republicans are unable to even admit the climate crisis is real. We cannot allow Republicans' special interest agenda to hand polluters the air we breathe and health of our communities. House Republicans should end their special interest denial and join Democrats in honoring our moral responsibility to address the climate crisis and protect the health and safety of future generations."
