Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after Senate Republicans voted to block consideration of amendments including No Fly, No Buy legislation and provisions to expand and strengthen our background checks system:

“Republicans in Congress have decided that their radicalism, recklessness and obstruction are more important than protecting Americans from gun violence. The overwhelming majority of Americans want Congress to take commonsense action to keep guns out of the wrong hands – but Republicans have decided to continue to enable suspected terrorists and criminals to buy all the deadly weapons they want.

“Congress should have the courage to cast a vote to disarm hate. The American people cannot understand why Republicans will not let Congress vote on bipartisan legislation to block suspected terrorists from buying guns and explosives.

“The Republican Congress must not leave Washington without passing common sense gun violence prevention legislation to keep the American people safe: No Bill, No Break.”
