San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on open enrollment through the Health Insurance Marketplaces for 2015, which begins today:

"As we enter the Affordable Care Act's Open Enrollment period for 2015, the reality is clear: this landmark law is delivering on the dream of quality, affordable health coverage for millions of American families.

"The Affordable Care Act has empowered millions of students, women, workers and families with the dependable, portable and affordable coverage they need. Last year, nearly 7 out of 10 people who selected a plan through the Marketplaces found coverage for less than $100 a month with tax credits. In just one year, this landmark law has also already reduced the number of uninsured adults by 26 percent, and millions of families can finally breathe easy thanks to newfound and newly affordable health coverage. Covered California led the way for the nation, helping us to cut the number of uninsured Californians in half.

"Starting today, uninsured Americans in California and across the country will once more be able to visit the Health Insurance Marketplaces and enroll in quality, affordable coverage that fits them and their families. Yet even as the Affordable Care Act continues to deliver health security to the American people, Republicans continue to plot the destruction of this law and the personal and economic freedom it provides to millions of middle class families. It's time for Republicans to drop their obsession with repeal, and finally recognize that health care must be a right, not a privilege, for all Americans."
