Pelosi Statement on Newest GOP Plan to Raise Americans’ Health Costs with TrumpCare

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after reports that House Republicans will add radical new provisions to raise health care costs on Americans with pre-existing conditions and seek to hold a vote on TrumpCare next week:

"TrumpCare is a moral monstrosity that will devastate seniors, children and hard-working Americans, and Republicans have decided to make it even worse. Republicans' latest plan is to expose Americans with pre-existing conditions to staggering new health costs.

"TrumpCare already means higher costs, less coverage, gutting key protections, a crushing age tax, and stealing from Medicare. Now, by gutting protections for people with pre-existing conditions, Republicans will make it all but impossible for millions of Americans fighting illness to afford the health coverage they desperately need. Make no mistake, the House Republicans' plan means heart-stopping premium increases for Americans with anything from asthma to cancer.

"Republicans' desperation to keep TrumpCare alive is making it even more expensive and cruel for seniors and hard-working families. Republicans' attempts to raise the health costs of America's seniors and families must end now."
