Washington, D.C.Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the Republican-controlled House Oversight and Government Reform Committee's planned markup today of a resolution of disapproval to overturn the D.C. Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Amendment Act. The RHNDA would prohibit employers from discriminating against an employee, spouse or dependent because of private reproductive health decisions.

"Once again, Republicans are acting to enable employers to intervene in workers' most intimate health decisions and to discriminate against them for private health decisions outside the workplace. It is outrageous that House Republicans would seek to overturn a duly-enacted D.C. law so that businesses can fire employees for their private health choices.

"Allowing employers to fire employees for using birth control, or in vitro fertilization, or any other reproductive health care service is an unconscionable intrusion into workers' personal lives. By disapproving D.C.'s law, House Republicans would even allow employers to fire employees for the reproductive health decisions that their employees' spouses and dependents make.

"Republicans need to recognize that your personal health care choices are not your boss's business. Republicans should reconsider their egregious efforts to overturn D.C.'s sensible anti-discrimination law."
