Washington, D.C. – Speaker Pelosi issued this statement after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit today issued an order granting the House of Representative's motion to intervene as a party in the Texas v. U.S. lawsuit, in which a ruling was handed down striking down the entire Affordable Care Act, in addition to the provisions protecting Americans with pre-existing conditions:

"On Day One of the new Congress, the new Democratic House took action to protect Americans' health care. While the Trump Administration has cruelly sought to strike down the law, the Court correctly granted the House of Representatives' motion to be heard in defense of people with pre-existing conditions and all Americans' health care.

"The Affordable Care Act and all its life-saving protections are the law of the land, and the House will defend this law while the Trump Administration abdicates its duty to do so. The Court should reject the Republicans' monstrous lawsuit to dismantle our protections for people with pre-existing conditions, bans on lifetime and annual limits on health coverage, the Medicaid expansion, health insurance affordability tax credits and young adults' ability to remain on their parents' insurance until age 26.

"Republicans should end their war on health care once and for all, and join Democrats to build on the Affordable Care Act to lower health costs and prescription drug prices for seniors and families across America."
