Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released this statement in commemoration of Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month, which is observed in May:

“Asian Pacific American Heritage Month celebrates the beautiful cultures, monumental achievements, and rich contributions that Asian American, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders have made to the rich fabric of our country. Even after enduring the indignities of exclusion laws, surviving the injustice of internment, and more, AAPI Americans have continued to bravely defend, shape, and enrich our great country.

“Generations and generations of Asian Pacific Americans have made America more beautiful. My city of San Francisco is proud example of where a vibrant and growing AAPI community reminds us every day that the beauty is in the mix.

“During this Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, let us celebrate our fellow Americans. Let us recommit ourselves to passing comprehensive immigration reform that will unite our families and make America more American. Let us honor the thriving and dynamic Asian and Pacific American community throughout our nation.”
