Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Department of Health and Human Services announced its conditional approval of the California Health Benefit Exchange along with the new health care exchanges of six other states, intended to be up and running by the time the Affordable Care Act takes full effect next year:

“With today’s announcement, California and a series of other states are moving our nation closer to the day when affordable health insurance is available and accessible to all Americans. The California Health Benefit Exchange will serve as a critical marketplace for millions of middle class Californians and uninsured workers to evaluate private health insurance options, purchase high-quality affordable plans, and secure vital coverage for themselves and their families.

“California has already led the way in implementing the Affordable Care Act, as the first state to enact legislation creating a health insurance exchange. We look forward to the day when every state has an exchange up and running, and every American can access medical care.”
