Washington D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks this evening as House Democrats continue the ‘No Bill, No Break’ sit-in, demanding that the Speaker bring up a vote on commonsense gun violence prevention legislation before the House recesses. Below are the Leader’s remarks:

“Thank you all. The leadership and resolve you have shown today and demanding an end to the House inaction on commonsense gun violence prevention legislation, guided by the moral strength of John Lewis, our sit-in on the Floor, actions inside the Capitol, outside on the steps of the Capitol and now, across on the lawn of the Capitol – has focused the attention of the American people on Republicans’ radical and reckless obstruction.

“The focused, determined resolve of you, my colleagues, made this action a success heard around the world. Around the world.

[Cheers]

“With John Larson presiding. Let’s hear it again for John Larson.

[Applause]

“Republicans denied us a vote, we sat on the Floor. We sat on the Floor, with John Larson presiding. When they turned off the House cameras, we livestreamed from our phones. Thank you, Beto. Thank you Scott. Thank you, Eric.

[Applause]

“Because of you, they cannot – they can try to shut down the Floor, but because of you, they cannot shut out the voices of the victims and the will of the American people. And now, as you hold up the names of people who have been victims of violence…

[Applause]

“…Thank you. We want their families to know they will never be forgotten. And we would also like to acknowledge that watching what was happening here today, the mother of Dylan Hockley, Nicole Hockley came down from Connecticut, she’s in the Gallery. Let us give her a round of applause.”
